Flexcon Helios Tutorial
This tutorial will teach you how to apply Flexcon Helios energy use simulation to a FlexSim model. It will guide you step by step through configuring energy requirements for your process, simulating and visualizing energy consumption, evaluating the potential for on-site renewable energy generation, and setting up virtual experiments to compare different usage scenarios.
In this tutorial, you will simulate an imaginary pharmaceutical packaging line. You will be able to experiment with different production schedules and observe their impact on energy use in the process.
Tasks Covered
This tutorial will cover the following tasks:
Creating a FlexSim Model of Your Process
Use FlexSim as usual, and select simulation objects and tools that best represent your business system. For energy use simulation, it is important to choose a level of detail where different energy consumers are represented as distinct simulation objects.
Defining Energy Use Policies
Use the EnergyUsePolicy tool to define energy consumption rates (power requirements) for each consumer. Analyze how total energy consumption changes over time.
Modeling Available Energy Sources
Add EnergySource objects to simulate an on-site photovoltaic system and grid power. Connect them to EnergyUsePolicies to explore the extent to which it is possible to power the entire process using renewable on-site generation.
What-If Scenarios
Set up an experiment to compare different production schedules and evaluate their energy use.
